In his press conference after a goalless draw with Chelsea in a lifeless encounter in Wednesday’s Carabao cup semi-final first leg, Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger confirmed that defensive midfielder, Francis Coquelin has completed a £12million transfer to Valencia.
Apart from star forward, Alexis Sanchez who was left on the bench for the encounter before being brought on as a second-half substitute, who is also expected to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in only a matter of day, Mesut Ozil is yet to sign a new deal while Calum Chambers and Theo Walcott are both linked with a move out of Emirates.
A fan favourite, Jack Wilshere who has enjoyed a fine run of form in recent games also picked up an injury in last night encounter after he sprained his ankle.
Wenger was however adamant that Coquelin’s departure or the probability of some other players leaving will not force the club’s hand in the transfer market, he said: “At the moment we have five big injuries and hopefully we will get some back soon.”
He also went ahead to defend his Chilean forward by saying that: “People don’t know Alexis Sanchez. This is a guy completely focused on playing football.”
