It is sad to admit that Evans could leave in January – Pardew

West Bromwich Albion new Manager, Alan Pardew has stated that the possibility of losing experienced defender, Johnny Evans in January is a sad one for him.

As the January transfer window draw closer, there are growing speculations that the 29-year old who was linked to top premier league clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Leicester over the summer could be priced away from the Hawthorns as soon as the window opens.

“I’m never confident when you’ve got great players because other clubs want great players, so your best players are always vulnerable,” he said.

“Jonny Evans is definitely one of them and he is our captain. Do I want to lose him? Of course not. Do I fear losing him? Of course, I do.

“There was interest in him in the summer so it makes sense to stir it up. They are good headlines for the media. I understand that, we deal with it and Jonny has dealt with it in his own way.

“He was terrific for me. I can only go on his performance and he was outstanding for me against Crystal Palace and [now] we go to Swansea.”

The former Manchester United defender has 18-months left on his contract with West Brom and the increasing interests from top clubs might just make him consider a move away at this time.
