Barcelona confirms double Injury blow

§ Samuel Umtiti ruled out of El Clasico with Hamstring Injury.

§ Andres Iniesta set to miss midweek Champions league game at home to Sporting CP.

Barcelona defender, Samuel Umtiti who has developed into a vital member of the Liga giant first team suffered a hamstring injury in the 70th minute in their 2:2 draw at home to Celta Vigo.

Umtiti who was charging backwards to catch up with Celta forward, Iago Aspas suddenly pulled up, an incidence which led to the former Liverpool striker to teem up with Maxi Gomez to level scores.

Formal Arsenal Captain, Thomas Vermaelen was later brought on to replace the injured Umtiti for the last 20 minute of the breath-taking encounter at the Nou Camp for his own second league appearance of the season.

It is now confirmed that the French defender will be out of action for the next eight weeks and as a result will miss crucial matches against Deportivo La Coruna and Villareal before the first El-Classico of the Liga season on Dec 23. He will also miss games against Levante, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Alaves, and possibly Espanyol in January.

“Losing Samuel right now is a very big loss, he has been in an excellent form” Barcelona Manager, Ernesto Valverde said. “The injury cost us the goal, it was an accumulation of catastrophe, conceding the equalizer and the injury.”

Barca is currently without Argentine, Javier Mascherano who has been away also with a hamstring injury although he is expected to be fit in time for El-Classico.

Midfield Maestro and Club Captain Andres Iniesta were also substituted after 53 minutes with Barcelona now confirming that he will be unavailable for the midweek clash at home to Sporting CP due to “muscle fatigue in his left calf”.
